In a recent interview, John Cafiero told Rolling Stone: “I reached out to Dischord (Fugazi’s label) about covering the song, and eventually had the pleasure of speaking to (Fugazi vocalist) Ian MacKaye personally about it. Conceptually, it was intimidating because talking to Ian MacKaye about covering “Waiting Room” is like walking on metaphorical hallowed ground. But he’s truly someone that lives up to his ethos. On top of that, he couldn’t be a more gracious guy. Like the music he creates, Ian MacKaye is a role model for integrity without pretension.”

50 prints were specifically signed, numbered and made available exclusively to select record stores that competed to be among those to receive prints for use in their Record Store Day celebrations. The goal of the release—to reawaken the fun and experience of seeking out treasures from your local record store.

“Indie Record shops have always been a breeding ground of great music, art, culture and ideas, but they’re becoming casualties of modern circumstance,” Cafiero says of Record Store Day. “It’s exciting and inspiring that artists and individuals are pulling together in recognition of that, and working to create a grass roots uprising in support of maintaining the existence of these small hubs that once were, and to many still are, sacred staples in our society.

To me, “Waiting Room” is truly a punk anthem, and indicative of the indie music movement in general.” Cafiero elaborates. “I’m proud to have the chance to ignite a flame in its honor for Record Store Day. I don’t think the song, the artwork created for this release, or the intention of everyone, and everything, surrounding this project for that matter, could be any more perfectly suited to the cause.

The artwork perfectly represents the spirit and sound of the record, not to mention it was rendered by a visual pioneer in his own rite, Shepard Fairey (Obey Giant Art/Studio Number One)—another icon of indie, DIY street ethics, and a success story to boot. There are so many different facets to this project. If I wasn’t one of the creators behind the release, I’d have marked my calendar and readied to seek it out on Record Store Day. I encourage those who like what they hear to seek out more material from JuiceheaD, Osaka Popstar—and for the uninitiated—Fugazi of course.

Be sure to ask for them at your local record store…” – John Cafiero

JUICEHEAD “SINKING SHIP”
REVIEW IN KERRANG

Kerrang, the world’s biggest selling weekly rock magazine, had some kind words to say about the new album from JuiceheaD: “How to Sail a Sinking Ship”.

”This is the sound of popular punk from an age when it actually wasn’t very popular. Chicago’s JuiceheaD belong to a school of bands—Misfits, Adolescents, 7 Seconds—who pulled up to ratty venues in knackered vans and played energized pop songs at high volume. Their sound has about it an innate charm, and more than that it has a bucketful of choruses many of which are fit to be sung in the shower….an enjoyable album.” - Ian Winwood.

"JuiceheaD crank out some bustin O.S. punk rock; taking me back to my skater youth. They play hard and fast with some hints of ska, and entice a rather nice pit mid-set. They do look happy powering through songs ‘Rotting From The Inside’ ‘The American Dream’ ‘ Deadly Nightshade’ ‘Open Sore’ ‘Internal Bleeding’ ‘Disenchanted Youth’ and several more from their debut CD ‘How To Sail A Sinking Ship’ before dragging out a buddy to sing along to ‘Covered In Blood’ and finally closing their set with ‘Death Of Democracy’ (how’s that for punk rock) leaving behind a pleased crowd and me wanting to check out more about them.

Now the Misfits (should) need no introduction… the crowd swells largely here as the house lights dim, and all the stage attire is finely stripped of the black shrouds that have kept all the props ‘a secrecy’. Dramatically opening with title track from the new Cd ‘Devil’s Rain’ the Misfits are clearly here to prove to, and blow away any doubters…Jerry Only powers impressively through a well presented live stage set (props and lights included) concluding the first part of the set, quite rightly, being dedicated to for-said new Cd. Finally stopping for a few short words and then it’s old school time baby… ‘Static Age’ ‘Where Eagles Dare’ ‘ Death Comes Ripping’ ‘She’ and plenty more classics…and finishing the set with favorite ‘We Are 138’ before leaving the stage for a few minutes to return... An extensive encore of old classics and some new thrown in follows on. Set closer ‘Die Die My Darling’ is played at rocket speed finishing what proved to be a great Misfits gig. Jerry Only’s voice carried all the songs superbly keeping a classic Misfit vibe, and even the two songs that Dez sang fit in to secure the legacy that the Misfits are back and mean business (all be it a different line up, but a damn good one at that)."

"This was a night with Jerry Only behind the reigns, a night that will make your ears bleed but ultimately leave you screaming for more.

Photo: Hannah Cole

…the legendary JuiceheaD from Chicago managed to get a mosh pit going from the start to the very end of their set. The three-piece punk band delivered a lively and upbeat performance of dirty, jaw splitting tunes of every way, shape and form. With the comical facial expressions of vocalist Rob Vannice these guys were more than fun to watch.  From front to the back of the room they got the crowd well and truly hyped with their sing-along chorus’s and aggressive riffs. By the end of their set the audience were just about ready to wee their pants in excitement for The Misfits.

After a long and climatic intro with inches of smoke from the fog machine The Misfits were up and what an entrance they made! With skulls attached to every mike stand and a drum kit that looks like it had just risen from the grave. It was evident that the fans of Reading were in for a long night of horror fueled fun. With each song blasting into the next one Jerry Only left no time for applause and no time to stop the pits. It’s true what they say, there’s no rest for the wicked. With the generic dirty, grimy fast paced beats that make The Misfits so inspiring it is no wonder they are the iconic band they are. Jerry’s graphite bass guitar sounded as heavy as it probably was to hold and his trademark spiky leather jacket just added this surreal zombie, metal hedgehog look to the whole stage set. The strobe lighting got the crowd going crazy and the fists the high in the air as fans screamed along to the harsh sound of Jerry’s voice. By the end of the night it took an hour to get my hearing back but it was so worth it. With more line-up changes over the years than you can shake a fork at,  them members that now make up The Misfits are incredible. Jerry has still got it, and his voice is still as unique and mind blowing as it always was. Make sure you check them out on the rest of their UK tour while you still can!"

JUICEHEAD'S "HOW TO SAIL A SINKING SHIP" "SPOTLIGHT"  FEATURE ON MUSIC-NEWS.COM!

"This is real punk, not the overblown Punk-pop of Blink 182 or prog-punk of Green Day. About a hundred numbers (actually 20) with titles like ‘Rotting From The Inside’ or ‘Deadly Nightshade’ or ‘No Regrets’, produced by Ramones collaborator John Cafiero and even loaded with little twists like Cello from Melora Creager (Nirvana & Rasputina) on ‘Black Roses’ or the Punk Pipers on ‘When I Fall From Grace’. The talents on show actually bring to mind The Pogues in their ‘Rum Sodomy & The Lash’ days, not for the music but the integrity and the preparedness to do different things." - ANDY SNIPPER

JUICEHEAD “SINKING SHIP” REVIEW @ HEAVY METAL TIME MACHINE

“Longtime Misfits & Ramones collaborator John Cafiero does a great job capturing JuiceheaD's youthful spirit on this record. His production is sound enough while retaining enough punk edge to make the album feel like an old familiar friend. The album has unreal hooks and feels like honest to God punk. This is a rare event these days with corporate pop/punk bands and mallcore crashing our industry. These kids sound like the real deal and write songs full of honest rage, frustration, hope and sadness. With guests like Osaka Popstar frontman Cafiero (who does backing vocals for the awesome “Rotting from the Inside”), cellist Melora Creager (Nirvana, Rasputina) and The Punk Pipers (who add traditional bagpipes to the track “When I Fall From Grace”) the album has loads to offer. It is good to know there is still traditional punk bands out there like JuiceheaD who play with a chip on their shoulder and a thirst to right the real wrongs of this world.” – Andy, Heavy Metal Time Machine

VOCALIST/GUITARIST ROB VANNICE BREAKS DOWN JUICEHEAD'S NEW ALBUM, "HOW TO SAIL A SINKING SHIP" FOR ROCK EDITION

Chicago punk band JuiceheaD are touring in support of their new album, 'How to Sail a Sinking Ship,' released October 4 on Misfits Records. The album combines a classic punk rock sound with a modern feel; songs such as “Lorraine” and “American Dream” bounce with ska-like energy, while the tracks “Black Roses” and “When I Fall From Grace” feature cello and bagpipe arrangements, respectively. Clearly, JuiceheaD aren’t afraid to step outside of the box while still paying homage to the sound that they represent. Vocalist/guitarist Rob Vannice recent spoke to Rock Edition and shared his very personal thoughts and experiences with recording JuiceheaD’s new record, detailing how each track on the record came to be. Read on and learn 'How to Sail a Sinking Ship.'

JUICEHEAD WRITE UP IN THE CLEVELAND SOUND

JuiceheaD dubbed: "The three-headed Ghidorah or Cerebus of modern punk"!

"Vannice delivers his message with all the vitriol expected of a front man in the melodic thrash game—and does it all while playing in tight tandem with drummer Mike Garelli and bassist Tommy Kloss. Fans of The Casualties, Adicts, Green Day, Agent Orange, and Flogging Molly should take note ... One might think of them as the three-headed Ghidorah or Cerebus of modern punk."

Fans of the Showtime original series Dexter may have spotted a cameo by the Misfits, JuiceheaD and even legendary Ramones guitarist Johnny Ramone among others; in the season six series premiere recently. In the scenes that take place at Dexter’s high school reunion, the set was dressed with the Misfits Land of the Dead poster, the Misfits-JuiceheaD 2010 Chicago Halloween show poster, and a live concert photo poster of Johnny Ramone, along with Metallica and others. If you missed it, tune in to Showtime or Showtime On Demand to catch the repeat (episode entitled “Those Kinds of Things”)—and for those who’d like to decorate their walls like Dexter, (minus the blood splattered plastic wrap…) click the links above to order the posters featured on Dexter.

JuiceheaD's "How to Sail A Sinking Ship" and The Misfits "The Devil's Rain" in the running for Dying Scene's cover of the week:

Remember when buying an album meant something more than adding a dozen audio files to an already endless collection of impersonal mp3s? It was a time when liner notes actually got read and there was something really special about the art that graced an album’s cover. Today, in an industry dominated by iTunes and Pandora, it seems the cover art of an album is getting a little under-appreciated.

Well, Dying Scene aren’t letting the art form die off so easily. Whether bizarre, beautiful, thought provoking, or hilarious, each Tuesday they present the most interesting album covers from the albums released that week and let you readers vote on which one you think should win “Best Cover Art of the Week!”
